Taniguchi Kokyo  (1864 - 1915) was the second son of Tsuji Kyujiro, a cloth merchant. One of the founders of the modern Kyoto school, he taught at the Kyoto Municipal School of Fine Arts and Crafts and the Kyoto College of Fine Arts. Illness cut short his career. He painted mainly landscapes, birds and flowers, and historical subjects.
